چکیده

Recent studies have demonstrated subadditivity of human probability judgment: the judged probabilities for an event partition sum to more than 1. We report conditions under which people's probability judgments are superadditive instead: the component judgments for a partition sum to less than 1. We interpret both directions of deviation from additivity in a common framework, in which probability judgments are often mediated by judgments of evidence. The two kinds of nonadditivity result from di erences in recruitment of supporting evidence together with reduced processing of nonfocal propositions.

A note on the monotonicity and superadditivity of TU cooperative games∗

In this note we make a comparison between the class of monotonic TU cooperative games and the class of superadditive TU cooperative games. We first provide the equivalence between a weakening of the class of superadditive TU games and zero-monotonic TU games. Then, we show that zero-monotonic TU games and monotonic TU games are different classes. Finally, we show under which restrictions the cl...

Typical versus atypical unpacking and superadditive probability judgment.

Probability judgments for packed descriptions of events (e.g., the probability that a businessman does business with a European country) are compared with judgments for unpacked descriptions of the same events (e.g., the probability that a businessman does business with England, France, or some other European country). The prediction that unpacking can decrease probability judgments, derived fr...

Probability Model of Decision Making for Successful Transplantation of Non-Cadaveric Organs (RESEARCH NOTE)

Mathematical modeling based on a probabilistic approach for making decisions for organ transplantation can be successfully employed in cases when the choice of decisions can affect the results produced. In this study, the minimum probability of success required for organ transplantion in case of multi-donors is determined. The governing equations are constructed in terms of probabilities and so...

Probabilistic opinion pooling generalized. Part one: general agendas

How can di¤erent individuals’probability assignments to some events be aggregated into a collective probability assignment? Classic results on this problem assume that the set of relevant events –the agenda –is a -algebra and is thus closed under disjunction (union) and conjunction (intersection). We drop this demanding assumption and explore probabilistic opinion pooling on general agendas. On...

Estimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...
